Mumia Abu-Jamal: 25 Years Later

Nearly 25 years since his December 1981 arrest, Black journalist, author, and political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal remains on death row in Pennsylvania. This most recent article on the case by Linn Washington Jr. points out the continued effort being made by the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police to see Mumia executed in the face of some the best legal developments his case has seen. Currently, Mumia and his defense team are awaiting an announcement from the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals as to when oral arguments will be heard regarding the fairness of his 1995 Post-Conviction Relief Act hearing with Judge Albert Sabo as well as other constitutional violations which occurred during his initial 1982 trial.
